Another great man’s death, a non-film post.

Lee Hazlewood died over the weekend, August 4th. For those of you who don’t know who he is, he most famously wrote “These Boots are Made for Walkin” for Nancy Sinatra. He also wrote and sang the duet with Sinatra “Some Velvet Morning”, which is one of the most psychedelic songs I’ve ever heard. He was a total badass in the tradition of Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, and Iggy Pop, a true original.

I was first introduced to his music while working at Vinnie Van Go Go’s pizzeria in Savannah, GA. Paul Vick, in fact, played the song on a mix tape and it blew my mind. Half of my music taste derives from working with those people. They introduced me to so much great music, and Lee Hazlewood was near the top of the list.
