One hundred eighteen: Krzysztof Kieslowski: I’m So-So

Krzysztof Kieslowski: I’m So-So, directed by Krzysztof Wierzbicki, is another short documentary that I’d been wanting to see for awhile. I’m a huge Kieslowski fan. I would put him up there with Stanley Kubrick as my favorite directors.

Krzysztof Kieslowski: I’m So-So is an interview, with clips, documentary conducted by Wierzbicki, a long time Kieslowski assistant. The film highlights particular films rather than touch on every film that Kieslowski directed.

What I liked: What could have been the typical fluff piece was a bit more piercing, as the interviews with a retired Kieslowski touch on his philosophy of life and his attitude towards cinema. As someone who has read a lot about Kieslowski, including book length interviews, this doc did supply some information I did not know.

What I didn’t like: A bit fluffy, and didn’t cover as many films as I would have liked. Since it was filmed only two years before his death we will never get the opportunity to delve deeper into Kieslowski’s mind and working methods. It’s a missed opportunity. However, my expectations were low and it delivered.

  1. You know what review I’m waiting for…

  2. It’s next and it’s going to be pretty long. You’ve heard most of it already.
